Please click here and follow the easy instructions.

We support Firefox 1.x - 2.0, Internet Explorer 6.x - 7.0 and Safari. The Toolbar is available in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. The Bookmarklet is available in Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari. Help us help you make Designbuggy a better utility. Use the Give Us Feedback option to contact us about any irregularities you experience with Designbuggy in your browser. We'll have our team work on it straight away.

No, you can still have full bookmarking capabilities by saving a discrete Bookmarklet to your bookmark bar. The bookmarking sequences work the same.

Neither. The Toolbar is ideal for those who source online regularly, like interior designers and architects. The Bookmarklet offers the same bookmarking capability, but does not need to be installed. It is a more discrete presence in your bookmark bar. However, it does not have all of the following capabilities outlined in the next section:

The toolbar has the following capabilities, (some of which are not yet available in the Internet Explorer version):
Designbuggy: Choose whether this will click you back to your home page, your My Sources page or the help page.
Add Items: Initiates the capture sequence, importing all downloadable images and relevant text from the web site to a Designbuggy import page.
Favorite: Choose whether to add a website to your Designbuggy favorites, or to launch your Designbuggy websites page.
Search: Choose whether to search all sources, your My Sources database or your Groups.
Alerts: We'll let you know if you've got a notification or alert; just click the button to read it.
Toolbar Options: You can refresh your toolbar, adjust your toolbar settings (such as whether a link opens in the current window or in a new tab or window) and clear your search history.

Bookmarking

The Designbuggy utility captures all downloadable images. Once you've initiated the capture sequence (see below), you'll be redirected to an import page where you can select the appropriate image and edit the relevant text. If there are multiple images on a page, we'll pick the one we think is right, but you can display them all if you wish.

Some sites display products using Flash or are implemented using frames. While Designbuggy can capture the root URL for Flash sites, frame platforms (which are quickly being phased out of most web design) are not compatible with our tools. We'll let you know as soon as new functionality goes live to resolve this.

Bookmarking is hassle-free. Once you Get the Tools for your browser, you can start the capture sequence in one of these ways:

If you've installed the Toolbar:
Right-click and select "Add To My Designbuggy," OR
Click the "Add Item" icon in the toolbar menu, for IE and Firefox, OR
Click the Designbuggy icon (with the plus sign) at the top of your browser, for Firefox.
If you're using the Bookmarklet:
Click on the Bookmarklet

After we capture the images and text from the page, just make sure you've got the right image(s) and select a category. If you like, you can also select a project, edit the captured text and add notes or tags. You can also file the source as a Product, Look or Other.

These are different source types. Use these filing designations to help navigate between products (actual home furnishings sources, like tiles, sofas or fabric), looks (images and renderings of interiors or exteriors for inspiration) and other items (cool hotels, restaurants or fashion). You can change the default type using the link beneath them.

Help us grow our list of environmentally friendly items. Anything you mark as "Green Design" will be added to our sustainable design category. You can search these items using the Green Design filter in your left hand browsers: Browse Websites, Browse Products and Browse Looks. If you don't want the Green Design option to appear on the prompt, you can change this in the defaults on the prompt pages.

Sometimes, the description of the product isn't linked to the image displayed on the webpage. Our tech team is doing their best to lessen the frequency of this happening so bear with us! You can always copy and paste descriptions into the description box.

Managing

The top navigational bar includes:
Profile: Edit or view your profile and manage account settings
Library: Manage your Websites, Projects or Categories. Add items using our upload tool.
Contacts: Manage, view or invite contacts, or view your My 100 selections. (Click here to learn more about My 100.)
Inbox: Read messages and notifications and compose messages.
The main navigational bar includes:
My Sources: View your entire database of items
My Websites: Manage or view your websites here. This sub-menu also includes quick-links to your 10 most frequently accessed websites.
My Projects: Manage or view your projects here. This sub-menu also includes quick-links to your 10 most frequently accessed projects.
My Groups: Manage or view your groups here. This sub-menu also includes quick-links to your 10 most frequently accessed groups.
My Feeds: Manage or view your feeds here. This sub-menu also includes quick-links to your 10 most frequently accessed feeds.
The search bar lets you search by these options: All Sources (all public Designbuggy items), My Sources (just yours) or My Groups (just items from members of your groups).
The browsers in the left-hand sidebar, which access all public sources in the database, include:
Browse Websites: All websites that have been captured are included here. In fact, if you can't find the specific item you want, try these links.
Browse Products: These are individual items for the home
Browse Looks: These are images and renderings of interiors or exteriors for inspiration.
We've spent some time putting together our category system, but please use the Give Us Feedback button to let us know what does and doesn't work for you.

The sub-menus inside the frames on product display pages include:
Add: Add items to the open folder from your computer or using our tools.
Share: You can share items with specific people (a contact or a group) or to your profile. If you select the latter, you can move items into specific Designs or Collections within your profile. (Click here for more on Designs and Collections.)
Sort: Items can be sorted by most relevant, most recent or most viewed, as well as by category. The last option allows you to isolate items from the selected folder by category.
Display: There are three display options: Gallery View, Thumbnail View and List View.

Click on Library on the top navigation bar and select the appropriate option. Projects can also be accessed through the My Projects button. You can rename and delete your projects and categories this way, and also change whether they are public or private.

Just click Edit in List View or on the product's detail page, accessed by clicking on the product's image.

On the product's detail page, scroll down to Group Conversations or Community Reviews. Comments in Group Conversations are seen only by members of the selected group. Comments on Community Reviews are seen by everybody.

You can use the Report This link to let us know if an item is either Inappropriate (i.e., it should be removed from our database because the content is inappropriate) or Out of Stock (i.e., the item is no longer available at the specified URL).

Click on your Display menu and select the view you want.

Sharing/Groups

You can go to Contacts: Invite, or just click here.

Sharing is one of the cornerstones of Designbuggy. There are a couple of ways to do it:
Invite your friends to join designbuggy. Once you've established a group with them, they can see specified sources, and comment on them too. Invite them by clicking here.
Click on "Email" in the item's MySource page. We'll send an email with the product's image and description.
Once you've established a group, you can easily share by following the prompts in the Share menu.
If you want to share an entire project, go to Library: My Projects, and select the Share option next to the project you wish to share. Follow the prompts.

There are two types of groups:
Private (Only invitees can see any pages): These types of groups are best for collaborating with friends, family, clients, colleagues, designers or others you already know.
Public (Anyone can join): These types of groups are best for community-wide collaboration. For example, if you're interested in mid-century modern furniture or metalwork, create an interest group that allows people to post interesting discoveries on topics you create.
You can use groups to automatically share items when you specify the access level. (See below.)

Private groups allow you to set three types of access: Universal (group members can access all your sources), Folder (group members can see all sources in project or category folders you choose) or Select (group members can only see individual sources you expressly share with the group). Public groups only provide for Project or Select access.

No. When a group member joins a group, they can select any access level they wish, even if it is not the same as the group's creator.

Go to My Groups: Find, and perform a search for the group you wish to see.

Public groups are either automatic, meaning you just need to join for admission, or by request, meaning you need to ask the administrator to join. Both options are available on the groups' View page.

Go to My Groups: Create, and follow the prompts.

You can either invite people to join a group when you create it, or simply go to the groups' View page later, where you'll find an Invite link.

Finding

Similar Sources are items we think match what you're looking for. The more items you save, the better our recommendations.

Simply click on the option you wish to browse. BROWSE WEBSITES will display websites that have the type of item you're looking for. BROWSE PRODUCTS will display individual products captured publicly. BROWSE LOOKS will display finished interior or exterior projects. Drill down further by selecting the category you want to explore.

The ALL option searches all of the public sources in the Designbuggy database. The MY SOURCES option just searches your sources. The MY GROUPS searches all items that your group members have made available to you.

Go to My Groups: Find, and perform a search for the group you wish to see.

Your 100 includes you, plus the 99 users who share the most URLs with you. It's a great way to source socially. Just click on Contacts: My 100 and scroll through them. You'll likely find your sourcing soulmates-and some great collaborators.

Profile

No. All fields are optional, other than Account Type and name.

You can tailor your About page to include any sections you want. Use the topic field to create a section header and the text field to describe the section. If you want, add a hyperlink directing people to specific parts of your website (or any other website). Try these ideas for section headers: Bio, Clients, Philosophy, Disciplines or Favorites. It's your profile, so create sections that best describe you and your work.

When others visit your profile, they can click on four links: Sources (items you've made public), Designs (your finished design projects), Collections (any of your own furnishings that you may sell) and About (see above).

Designs are a great way to promote yourself. They are images of interior or exteriors that let other users know about your own work.

Collections are images of your own furnishings. They are items you design and sell, either through a third-party vendor or on your own.

You can either bookmark your own website, which will let users click through on the images to your site, or use our upload tool (Library: Add Items). When you Add Items, be sure to add a URL directing users to your site. Once you have added the right items to Designbuggy, you can move them into the appropriate Design or Collection easily using one of two methods:
When you create or edit a Design or Collection, you can specify a project folder that will automatically feed into the Design or Collection. Just create an individual project for each Design or Collection, and when you add items, be sure to file them in the right project folder.
Click on your My Sources link and select Share. Select To my Profile, then follow the prompts. That will add individual items to your Profile.

Privacy

Please read our Privacy Policy here. You can take steps to ensure total privacy by adjusting some key settings. Read through other Privacy FAQs to learn how.

We don't share the email address you provide when you register with anyone, including other Designbuggy users. If you like, you can specify an email address on your profile page.

To ensure that only selected contacts or group members see your profile, simply file the items in a private project. You can create a private project in any of the prompts (import, upload or save to my sources), or you can create one through your Library: My Projects page. Make your projects private to hide YOUR IDENTITY from others. Once an item is in a private project, only those you've selected in your Profile: Settings will be able to see your profile.

To ensure that only selected contacts or group members see your items, simply file the items in a private category. You can create a private category in any of the prompts (import, upload or save to my sources), or you can create one through your Library: My Categories page. Make your categories private to hide INDIVIDUAL ITEMS from others.

Feeds

Interested in discoveries from contacts or other users whose taste matches yours? Want to see when new lighting is added from your favorite blog? Maybe you're looking for red glassware to match a decor? Your My Feeds link lets you track new items added from your favorite people, websites or categories. Set a simple alert, and we'll let you know you when your selections are added.

Just pick what type feed you want (People, Website or Category/Tag) and then refine each feed further by creating a category or tag to find exactly what you're looking for. For instance, if you want to see all Lighting added from 1stdibs.com, create a Website feed adding the URL 1stdibs.com, then refine with the category Lighting. You can then select what sort of alert you'll receive.

No. When you create an email alert, just select No Email.

The most recent items from your feeds will be streamed onto your home page, so you can just check on what's new every time you sign in. You can also go to My Feeds: Recent Activity and see what's new there. We'll also put an alert next to your My Feeds link, and on your toolbar if you've installed one.

We've gotten you started with feeds from popular websites and users. You can delete or edit them, or create your own.
